Bold abstract swaths of color cutting across canvas, scraping, scratching, finding purchase; constructs of depth and beauty, Paule Dubois Dupuis' paintings evoke an imagined landscape of emotion and exploration. Coming on the heels of her successful New York exhibition, Dubois Dupuis’ latest San Francisco show, “Moments,” is an emotive treat for lovers of large abstract oils.
“My work examines the interaction of body, spirit and nature. The essence of my emotion is revealed through the use of textures, shape, and multiple layers of oil paint,” says DD of her process. “Often with one word in my mind, I try to find the rhythm and flow to convey the feeling.”
Dubois Dupuis' work has a visceral appeal that would be equally at home playing neighbor to a vintage Eames chair in a Soho loft, or holding court above an expanse of mahogany at some Fortune 500 company’s headquarters. It transcends.
